In Volume 1, the conductor Heinz Wallberg has invited three outstanding soloists who, together with the renowned orchestra from Vienna, build a bridge across Mozart to Schubert and Chopin to Franz Lehár.
Nicolai Gedda, sings Lehárs operetta song Friends, life is worth living! Soprano Tamara Lund contributes an excerpt from the Zarewitsch ( One will come ). One of the highlights of the program is the contribution of pianist Hans Graf, who offers Chopin´s variation on "Reach me your hand, my life" from Mozart´s Don Giovanni.
The orchestra presents some musical rarities as well: besides Schubert´s superb overture from Rosamunde and Richard Strauss colorful series of waltzes from The Knight of Roses the orchestra performs the last completed waltz of Johann Strauss Embrace each other, madding crowd. This piece and Carl Ziehrer s powerful waltz Come and See evoke the atmosphere of the New Year s Concert in a program which especially in its diversity is typical Viennese.
